Alberto Contador has been forced to skip the Clásica San Sebastián. Via his Twitter account, the Tinkoff-Saxo captain has suffered from a fever since the end of the Tour de France.
Last Sunday Contador announced that the Basque one-day race would be his last race of the season. His withdrawal likely means that he will now pull the plug on his 2015 season.
The 32-year-old won this year's Giro d'Italia and the Route du Sud. In the Tour de France, he had to settle for fifth.
