Daniel Navarro had big ambitions for today's Tour de France stage that took place close to the scene of his first big professional win in the Criterium du Dauphiné and was held on his birthday. However, the Spaniard started to feel bad already in the bus and ended up abandoning the race.

In 2010 Daniel Navarro won a big mountain stage of the Criterium du Dauphiné close to the city of Chamrousse where today's Tour de France stage finished. As today's race was also held on his birthday, Navarro planned to attack in an attempt to win the stage.

However, the day ended as a complete disaster for Navarro who was forced to abandon the race in the feed zone.

"I started to feel bad in the bus," he told Ciclismo en Asturias. "It was very hot and in the neutral zone I started to vomit. On the first climb, it was very fast and I was back in the cars and was dehydrated. When I was given some water, I vomited again.

"I could not eat anything and had cramps. The race was very fast because Katusha set the pace and I could not recover."

Navarro will now turn his attention to the Vuelta a Espana which was always set to be his second big goal.
