The biggest attraction in the Kermiscross in Ardooie after Sven Nys suddenly fell ill yesterday. “He was on the way to Ardooie but suddenly became very sick,” said a disappointed organizer.

Yesterday Sven Nys was honored in Oostende with the cyclocross trophy at the yearly Flandrien awards. The 37-year-old figurehead of cyclocross stayed in Oestende overnight to make the travel to Ardooie a bit shorter.

"Nys did attempt to start," said the oragnizers of the cyclocross in Ardooie. "But during his travel he was suddenly sick on and had to turn around."

It was already known that Klaas Vantornout would not be at the start in Ardooie. The winner of the last two editions was not invited because the organization no longer had enough money.

World Champion Zdenek Stybar will be at the start of the Kermiscross.
