Ramon Sinkeldam will get a rare chance to sprint for himself if the Nationale Sluitingsprijs, the final road race of the European season, comes down to a bunch sprint. The Dutchman leads Team Giant-Shimano in the flat Belgian race.
The Tour of Beijing may be the last race to finish on the team’s calendar, but the last European outing is Tuesday’s Nationale Sluitingprijs – Putte – Kapellen in Belgium.
Team Giant-Shimano lines up for this one-day race with a team that can pursue both opportunistic chances and also sprint possibilities if the race comes down to a group finish.
Ramon Sinkeldam and Tom Veelers provide the team with a fast finish, while riders like Dries Devenyns and Thierry Hupond are capable of covering the dangerous breaks out on the road.
Team coach Addy Engels gave his thoughts: “Most of the time Putte – Kapellen comes down to a bunch sprint, but you can never be sure this late in the season. Tired legs mean that any good combination up front could be the right one, so we will look to make it a hard race and see how things work out.
“If the race comes back for a bunch sprint then we have another strong card to play in Ramon who is very capable of getting a result here. He showed good form at the Tour de l’Eurométropole and can go well here. He also has experienced support for the finish with Tom V and Bert [De Backer].”
Line-up:
Brian Bulgac, Lawson Craddock, Dries Devenyns, Thierry Hupond, Bert De Backer, Ramon Sinkeldam and Tom Veelers
