"Obviously it's a big disappointment what happened this week with the crashes yesterday. That's how it goes sometimes but the rest of the guys are motivated to give it a try tomorrow."

Christian Knees narrowly missed out on a top 10 in the stage five time trial while Sebastian Henao also impressed at the Tour of Denmark.

Knees powered around the 13.6-kilometre course in a time of 16 minutes and 29 seconds, placing him 11th after a strong ride in Helsingor.

Henao clocked the 21st best time around the pan-flat coastal course to move himself up to 14th position overall, 2:30 back on the race lead, with Knees sitting one place and seven seconds further behind his team-mate.

Seven Danish riders packed out the top 10 on home ground with Mads Wurtz Schmidt (ColoQuick) setting a winning time of 15:45 and the only man to dip under 16 minutes.

Christopher Juul Jensen (Tinkoff-Saxo) came in 15 seconds back but that was enough to elevate him into a now commanding race lead of 45 seconds over Lars Bak (Lotto Soudal).

Bak had headed into the stage with the yellow jersey but a slower split time was compounded by a flat front tyre in the final metres.

Ben Swift was the next Team Sky rider home, setting a time good enough for 30th place following on from his top 10 finish in the morning's road stage.

"The guys did some strong rides today. I was behind Sebastian in the car and he was going really well out there," confirmed Sports Director Kurt Asle Arvesen.

"It's been a long day but the guys and the team have prepared for it. It's the same for everyone but it's tough for the riders. We've had three hard stages and then another two today. But Ben is feeling good and wants to give it a crack tomorrow.

"Obviously it's a big disappointment what happened this week with the crashes yesterday. That's how it goes sometimes but the rest of the guys are motivated to give it a try tomorrow."
