Mikel Nieve couldn’t have jelled better in his first year with Team Sky, both for results and for his adaptation to the dynamic work of the British team and his colleagues. So Dave Brailsford wishes to renew their confidence in the climber by giving him a new contract.
Giuseppe Acquadro, Nieve's representative, confirmed this to Diario de Navarra. "They are very happy with it. He has had a good season. They want us to get together this winter to improve and extend the contract of Mikel," says the Italian agent.
Nieve, meanwhile, makes a good evaluation of his sporting season, the best rider from the team in the Tour de France, 18th, and the best of Froome’s deomestiques in the Vuelta, 12th, besides being fourth in the San Sebastian Classic and a stage win in the Dauphiné at Courchevel. "I have personally completed my season feeling happy. I'm happy, they have treated me very well and I get along well with colleagues. The penalty is not being able to finish the job in the Tour because I was sick," he says.
And he confirms that he has adapted well to the British group. "Riding on this team is demanding because in every race in which they will participate, they come with options. I have not finished a season so well before. Yes I trained more, but it makes you go to the races safer and with a better base," Nieve told the paper
Of all his moments, of course he keeps his triumph in Courchevel, in which he spent ended a winless streak that was last broken when he raised his arms at Gardeccia in the Giro d'Italia in 2011. "That week I was at my best. It was one of the best weeks in my career. That week went well, I won the stage and that gave me confidence," he recalls.
