After finishing yesterday's stage with a concussion, Chris Anker Sørensen won't start today's time trial at the Giro d'Italia. The Dane will take three days of complete rest to recover from his injuries.
Chris Anker Sørensen has together with the Sport Directors and the team doctor decided to abandon Giro d’Italia after his violent crash on the 11th stage, where he fought his way to the finish line despite his injuries.
Chris Anker Sørensen injured his hand and arm and had a concussion as a result of the crash, which happened after 70 kilometers of the stage. Sørensen started to have light headaches during the night after the stage. The Tinkoff-Saxo team doctor monitored him closely during the night waking him up several times. Sørensen responded normally but didn’t sleep well during the night.
All neurological tests of Sørensen are normal but the Dane still feels the effects of the mild concussion that together with the full body wounds would make it difficult for him to continue in the ITT and following stages of Giro d’Italia.
Sørensen will stay with the team and team doctor until Friday before heading home. He has to rest and recover for three days before starting up with some light training again.
