The fourth stage of the Volta Catalunya was spectacular with multiple attacks. Tejay van Garderen took the win while Bart De Clercq took the leader's jersey. Sergio Pardilla (Caja Rural) was 17th and is now 16th overall. His teammate Lluis Mas still leads the sprints competition with 11 points.

"I felt good during the whole stage although I arrived at the bottom of the final climb with no energy left," Pardilla said. "It was very tough and I could see how the group has split. We rode very fast from the start of the second first category climb. The attack from van Garderen was very strong and well-timed. It was a good day for the team which was fighting and visible. It's been a hard day. Both David [Arroyo] and I were there but the pace made it very hard."
