In 2016 Filippo Pozzato will wear the Southeast jersey. The Italian rider who won Milan-San Remo in 2006, signed a two-year contract with the Italian. Speaking with Velonews, General manager Angelo Citracca hopes to receive an invitation for Sanremo and the Ronde and expexts the team to have a good chance to also do Roubaix.
"Filippo is still 34 years old, cyclists his age and older are still winning classics, so I don’t think it is a problem," he explained. "We are going to take him to those races, he can still win a Flanders or Roubaix. Filippo has it him."
"It’s more than just wins, if we have to be honest. After Vincenzo Nibali and Fabio Aru, grand-tour winners, Filippo is number one in terms of media attention in Italy," he said. "To be honest, having him in the team is worth the extra money it took to reach a contract deal because he brings us attention like none other."
Pozzato is a northern classics specialist. He has finished 13th (2006), 14th (2007), 6th (2008) and 2nd (2012) at the Tour of Flanders. His best finish at Paris–Roubaix was 2nd in 2009. At Gent–Wevelgem, Pozzato has finished 13th (2008) and 4th (2006) and he is a former winner of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad.
