Alberto Contador, Alejandro Valverde, Joaquím Rodriguez, Samuel Sanchez, Dani Moreno, Egoi Martínez, José Herrada, Jonathan Castroviejo, Jesus Herrada, David Arroyo, Angel Vicioso, Luis León Sánchez, Juan Antonio Flecha and Xavier Zandio were all included on the provisionary list announced by Spanish national team coach Javier Minguez yesterday.
According to Bicicicllismo.com Minguez also explained that the list will be reduced sometime next week, “probably Tuesday or Wednesday” to include the nine Spanish riders for the UCI World Road Championships and two riders for the World ITT Championships.
"Aspirations are the highest for the road race", said Minguez, "even though it is a one-day race." The coach also singled out Castroviejo and León Sánchez as "the most likely" to contest the individual time trial.
With regards to the road race, Minguez said he would await the outcome of the Grand Prix de Québec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal before deciding on the names that are likely to form a Spanish super team.
"I haven’t decided yet,” Minguez said. “I will wait for both races Canada to come to an end. It is not one hundred percent sure who will do the road race."
The World road race Championship takes place in Florence, Italy, on September 29.
