BMC Racing Team's Greg Van Avermaet finished sixth while teammate Silvan Dillier escaped serious injury in a crash during Saturday's prologue at the Tour de Suisse.
Van Avermaet was five seconds off the winning time of Tom Dumoulin (Team Giant-Alpecin), who was two seconds faster than past world time trial champion Fabian Cancellara (Trek Factory Racing). Matthias Brändle (IAM Cycling) was third, four seconds back.
Dillier's crash happened in the second corner of the 5.1-kilometer course.
"I came in fast, had to brake a little bit, shift down, accelerate and shift up again," Dillier said. "When I was shifting up again and pushing hard, my chain dropped, unluckily."
Dillier tumbled onto the pavement but was able to finish.
"I have some less skin, but otherwise it is OK and nothing is broken," Dillier said. "I will be ready to start tomorrow again."
