Simon Spilak (Katusha) won stage 4 of the Tour de Romandie on Saturday ahead of race leader Chris Froome (Sky) after the pair had left an elite group of chasing riders unable to catch up.
“It was a very good stage for me,” said Spilak. “I like bad weather, so I felt in great shape. The team worked perfectly until the last climb: we did it twice, so I had the time to find the right place to attack. Later on, Froome followed me and we worked and cooperated very well until the finishing line. I'm really happy with this victory: Now I'm second in the general classification, so my goal is to remain on the podium until the end."
Spilak trails Froome by 47 seconds and leads Movistar's Rui Costa by 34 seconds prior to Sunday's final individual time trial.
