Next season Simon Špilak will again be part of the WorldTour Team Katusha. The Slovenian rider and the team reached and signed an agreement to continue working together.
2015 is one of his best seasons ever after winning the overall classification of the Tour de Suisse. Earlier this season he finished 3rd overall in Paris-Nice and 2nd overall in the Tour de Romandie, behind teammate Ilnur Zakarin.
"It would be strange not to stay with the squad. The team accepts me, other riders support me and they appreciate when I work for them. I have the freedom to focus on my goals but these goals are ambitious. I feel that I have not reached my maximum level yet. There are some nice things to come. I am happy that we reached the agreement already, so that I can focus on my next races without any worries," said Simon Špilak.
Simon Špilak is currently in his fourth season with Team Katusha. Besides his overall victory in the Tour de Suisse he has also been on the top of the podium in the Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt, the Gran Premio Miguel Indurain and he won stages in the Tour de Romandie, Critérium du Dauphiné and Arctic Race of Norway.
"Simon is a certainty for us. We can count on our "hard weather guy". He has his goals and he always delivers. In other races he is always prepared to help a teammate win. The way he worked for Alexander Kristoff and Marco Haller in the last Tour des Fjords was exemplary. It is a pleasure to have and to keep him in Team Katusha," said general manager Viacheslav Ekimov.
Details on the newly signed contract will not be disclosed.
