Gert Steegmans still hasn't found a new team for the coming season. Now Het Nieuwsblad reports that he has offers from both Wanty Groupe Gobert and Trek Factory Racing.
34-year-old Gert Steegmans has still no new team for next season. "But he will take a decision very soon," manager Baden Cooke tells Het Nieuwsblad. "Gert has offers from Trek Factory Racing and Wanty Groupe Gobert. He is in full training and very motivation for next season."
At Trek, manager Luca Guercilena confirms that he has been in talks with Steegmans, Until now, the team has claimed not to have the budget for another rider. Now Guercilena opens a door for Steegmans. "It is not impossible that we will sign Gert as our 27th rider for 2015," he tells the Belgian newspaper.
At Trek, Steegmans would play an important role in the classics for Fabian Cancellara and guide young sprinters like Giacomo Nizzolo, Danny Van Poppel and Jasper Stuyven.
Also Hilaire Van der Schueren of Wanty Groupe Gobert talked yesterday with Baden Cooke. Van der Schueren sees Steegmans as "a rider who can ride the finale of the Tour of Flanders with Leukemans and Marcato."
Steegmans would not comment on his future. "I have nothing new to report," he said.
