Team Novo Nordisk’s sprinter Andrea Peron is still hoping to crack into the top 10 after earning his second top 20 of the race when he finished 18th on the Stage 4 sprint finish.

“I had good position going into the final turn, but then I just got passed by the lead out trains of Quick Step and Lotto,” Peron said. “I felt good and raced well but there is only so much I can do without taking dangerous risks.”

Wednesday’s 135.2-kilometer stage saw a six-man breakaway escape early into the race. They maintained a four-minute gap until the final intermediate sprint, but as their gap started to fall, three riders attacked. The trio was brought back inside the final 20 km setting the stage for a predicted bunch sprint. Fernando Gaviria (Etixx-Quick Step) took the win.

“Once we realized that we had missed the break, all six of us found each other,” Team Novo Nordisk’s Charles Planet said. “It really makes a difference riding together as one group. It keeps us safe and helps us save energy. Tomorrow is a summit finish and we will do all that we can to support Javi (Megias) and give him the best position on the climb.”

Team Novo Nordisk continues racing on Thursday with Stage 5 of the Aviva Tour of Britain. The 166.4-km stage features two intermediate sprints and three categorized climbs before a Category 1 summit finish in Hartside.
