The eighth stage of the Tour de France provided a very special challenge with the finish on the Mur de Bretagne. The BORA – ARGON 18 tactic was to be part of the group of the day, as they had great chances to succeed to the finish. Furthermore, leader Dominik Nerz should be supported as best as possible on the final ramp to limit the loss of time to the favorites. B
artosz Huzarski could escape successfully with three other riders from the field. After the intermediate sprint, about 70 kilometers from the finish, the race constellation changed when some followers caught the leaders. After an attack out of this larger group, Huzarski escaped again with two other riders and wasn’t caught until the last ten kilometers. He was awarded the red number of the most active rider for his performance.
Piloted by Paul Voss Dominik Nerz reached the finish in the challenging finale with a time loss of just 23 seconds to the yellow jersey. He moved to 25th place overall.
"We have achieved what we wanted to achieve. To be in the group with the hope that it may has a chance to get through to the finale. But then pretty early some teams have taken on the responsibility and controlled the group. But Bartosz made the best of it and attacked again as the group had almost already been caught. Through his offensive riding he won the red number, which is a nice award for him.
"So today, we rode actively but also wanted to support Dominik. The team did both very well. Regarding the 33 seconds that Dominik lost on the last climb, we already expected that because we knew that it is not his finale. Thus, we are very happy with today.", commented Enrico Poitschke today's stage.
