"We did everything we could to get him, but I guess when you don’t have great collaboration everybody misses out on the chance for a stage win."

Second in yesterday's stage, Andrew Talansky (Cannondale-Garmin) has found his legs in the final week of the Tour de France. Today he was again in the break and ended the stage in 9th.

"He got off the front in the last kilometre of the Glandon so he had a gap already going down the descent, so at that point we went down with group of guys and there wasn't a huge amount of collaboration on the downhill, there is only so much you can do and obviously Bardet knows the roads and went down pretty well," Talansky said, referring to stage winner Romain Bardet.

"We did everything we could to get him, but I guess when you don’t have great collaboration everybody misses out on the chance for a stage win.

"No revenge, just continuing the approach we’ve taken in this last week and now with myself, Ryder [Hesjedal] and Dan [Martin] off the front and up the road is a pretty good scenario. We didn’t come out with the win but like we’ve said, today was about trying and that’s what today about.

"With myself, Dan and Ryder, I think we still have a good chance and we are still going to keep trying definitely and that’s what we said yesterday and we tried yesterday, we tried again today and we have two more days at the Tour to try again.

"I came here with aspirations to be top-five, so anything outside of that, we are definitely not riding to defend 12th, 13th, 15th or 11th on GC, we are riding to try and win a stage. Whatever happens while we try and do that is just a by-product, we are definitely not a team that is going to defend 13th in the Tour."
