This morning Zdenek Stybar left the hospital in Roeselare where he underwent successful surgery on his shoulder ligaments which he injured in a crash at yesterday's Kermiscross in Ardooie. The Czech who will be married to his finacée Ine tomorrow, remained in good spirits when he was interviewed by Sporza. "I will do the opening dance."
After his crash two months ago in the Eneco Tour, Zdenek Stybar went to Ardooie in a quest to put things right in the West Flemish city. But things turned out differently.
"During the race,I thought I had a chance to win. That would have been a very nice story: to return to Ardooie with a victory after my crash. But the outcome was the opposite: now I have crashed twice."
The Omega Pharma-Quick Step rider now faces a new rehabilitation of four to six weeks, but he remained optimistic: "I hope it will be easy and that it does not take too long."
The injury is extra inconvenient because Stybar will have his church wedding tomorrow. But he hasn't lost his optimistic spirit. "I will do the opening dance. I believe in it."
He will no longer have a chance to practise his skills with Ine.
"She'll spend the night with her mom. I won't see her before tomorrow so I may have to practise with my mom," he adde with a laugh.
