Zdenek Stybar (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) added his first ever Czech road race title to the many cyclo-cross championships he has won in the past when he emerged as the strongest in today's race. The cyclo-cross world champion beat Petr Vakoc (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) and Jan Barta (NetApp-Endura) as he arrived at the finish with Peter Sagan who took the Slovakian title.

As one of the country's best ever cyclo-cross riders, Zdenek Stybar has taken lots of Czech championship titles but after his transition to the road he had not yet taken a road race title when he lined up for today's 2014 championships. After the battle in Slavkov, however, he broke the drought by taking his maiden win in the evnt.

As always, the race was held in conjunction with the Slovakian championships and it was a rider from each nation that emerged to be the strongest. Stybar and Peter Sagan escaped in the finale and as both were riding away with the title, they had a strong incentive to work together.

Stybar and Sagan reached the finish together and as the races were separate there was no reason to sprint for the win. Stybar could cross the line to take his first road race title. 53 seconds later Petr Vakoc beat defending champion Jan Barta in the sprint for second.

Stybar won't get the chance to show off his new jersey in the Tour de France as he hasn't been selected for the OPQS roster. He may ride his first race in the coveted tunic in the Tour of Austria which starts next Sunday.
