Omega Pharma-Quick Step rider Zdenek Stybar underwent surgery yesterday to his right knee due to inflammation of a prepatellar tissue. The surgery went well and Stybar is already at home.
The former world cyclocross champion has to observe a three week rest period before he can resume training.
"We decided with the team to perform this surgery to solve this problem that affected me since the Classics," Stybar said. "We tried to observe a period of rest after the Classics, but the problem didn't solve itself. That's why, together with the team medical staff, we decided I should have surgery performed. It's a pity, but it was necessary. Now I will take the time to recover and then in the upcoming week with the team we will reschedule my program. I would like to thank professor Bellemans and his staff for their kindness and professionalism."
Štybar’s last rode in the Paris-Roubaix where, barring an ill-fated impact with a spectator on the Carrefour de l’Arbre cobbles 15 km from the finish line, he might have been fighting for victory in his debut at the Queen of the Classics.
