Now it’s official. Maciej Paterski won the king of the mountains classification in the 72th edition of Tour de Pologne. ,In the individual time trial, which wrapped up the one-week competition, Branislau Samoilau was 23rd and Davide Rebellin finished the race in 11th place overall.
The Polish event ended with a 25-kilometer race against the clock around Krakow, through Wieliczka. Nikolay Mihaylov was the first and Davide Rebellin was the last rider in orange to take off. The Bulgarian ITT champion set 25th best time. Only Branislau Samoilau went faster (by one second) and took 23rd place.
Marcin Białobłocki, who took the Polish TT championships this year, recorded 28:45. Surprisingly nobody was able to better that result. Vasil Kiryienka (Sky) had to settle for second place, a further 2 seconds back. Rick Flens (LottoNL-Jumbo) rode to third, 59 seconds off the pace.
Ion Izagirre (Movistar) claimed the win in the final general classification. He completed the 7-stage race only 2 seconds faster than Bart Le Clercq (Lotto Soudal) and 3 seconds faster than Ben Hermans (BMC Racing). Davide Rebellin was the highest ranked CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider in 11th place.
Piotr Wadecki’s riders repeated their results from last year, when they also finished 11th overall (Marek Rutkiewicz) and won the mountains classification. For the second consecutive time Maciej Paterski took home the pink jersey.
