John Degenkolb will be unable to race for at least another three months, according to the Spanish surgeon who operated on the German after his heavy accident with the Giant-Alpecin squad in Spain. Degenkolb, last year's winner of Paris-Roubaix and Milan-San Remo, will miss all the spring classics if the reports are confirmed.

The 27-year-old German and five of his teammates were hit by a British motorist who drove into the wrong side of the road. Degenkolb and Chad Haga suffered the worst injuries.

Surgeon Pedro Cavadas told Spanish news agency EFE that one of Degenkolb's fingers almost torn off. Furthermore, the sprinter has a fracture in the forearm. During a three-hour operation, the injuries were treated in Valencia.

"The healing process will take longer because Degenkolb not only wants to have a normal life, but also wants to do sport at the highest level," said the surgeon.
