A fluctuating and unpredictable Rotterdam Six Days finished with Spanish duo Torres/Mora taking an unexpected win.

All throughout the Rotterdam Six Days unpredictability has ruled the day, for instance no team had been able to maintain the overall lead for two days in succession. The final evening was no exception. Going into the decisive evening, Stroetinga/Kreder was in command and looked set to take a win that would please the spectators in the Ahoy Arena. That, however, was not to be as the Dutchmen finished 6th, no less than 3 laps behind surprise winners Albert Torres and Sebastian Mora from Spain.

The Spaniards had kept close to the podium throughout but never really looked like making it to the top. That changed yesterday, though, as they rode flawlessly in the decisive Madison to see off the challenge from the German/French pairing of Grasmann and Kneisky.

Unfortunately the race has been beset by illness in the peloton as witnessed by the fact that no less than four teams failed to finish the race. Illness, in fact, may have affected other teams as well seeing that some of the pre-race favourites deteriorated notably mid-way through the race.

That should not take away anything from the winners, though, who demonstrated an admirable consistency throughout and a coolheaded approach as things heated up in the final Madison.

Next on the agenda for the Six Days riders is the event in Bremen, Germany, which kicks off tomorrow.
