As expected hard mountains started to create a selection on the second day of the 51st edition of the Vuelta al Táchira but the winner of the stage was a little known rider who added his name to the list of winners in Tachira as he won the stage and claimed five leader’s jerseys.
Jose Mendoza showed his huge talent as he came out on top in a stage that finished in the coffee plantations of Junin, on top of the Bramón climb, outside the headquarters of CONCAFE. Mendoza claimed the win with a strong acceleration from a small group of climber in the final few hundred metres and held off Jonathan Camargo and Jorge Abreu.
The local rider also took the lead in five competitions. In addition to leading the overall, he is now also the holder of the youth, mountains, points and combinations jerseys.
