Ben Swift is just one of five riders to still be with Team Sky from their first squad in 2010, but the Brit is potentially looking for a move elsewhere for 2017.

“In Sky we don’t really have that [lead-out train] anymore. The first couple of years we were all about that, but, quite rightly so, the team has become so dominant in stage racing that that’s very much second now,” Swift said to Cycling Weekly when asked about how much help he is getting as a sprinter.

The 28 year old began his season at the Tour Down Under and second place on stage four. He is competing with Elia Viviani and new signing Danny Van Poppel for sprint leadership and explained the situation with his contract.

“I’m on my second year and there was an option with a third,” he said. “I need to speak with the team and see where we are at with that and what my options are.”

As for his goals for 2016, he wants to be consistent and focus on hilly stage races, where he was successful in the past in places like Poland, Britain and, most memorably, Pais Vasco.

“Generally, I just want to be consistent, have a good start and get some confidence back. Milan-San Remo will definitely be back on the cards again but the cobbled Classics not so much. For me, it’s going back to the weeklong stage races that are lumpy.”
