For three years Jonathan Fumeaux was a reliable domestique at IAM. In 2016 he was finally in the spotlight himself when he won Swiss Championships.
"I am very satisfied with the past season. Finally I got a victory which I last managed to achieve in a stage at the Tour Alsace in 2012," Fumeaux told radsport-news.com.
The solo coup in Martigny came as a surprise as things went badly three weeks earlier at the Critérium du Dauphiné. "Due to allergies I could not ride well there," said Fumeaux who also finished fourth at the Swiss TT Championships and took 14th at the GP di Lugano in his home country.
After the early announced withdrawal of the sponsor and the demise of his IAM racing team, Fumeaux, was looking for a new employer but it seemed to be fruitless. Finally, he found the Swiss Continental team Roth-Akkros where he will ride in 2017.
"This will be a new challenge for me. Of course, Roth-Akkros only riders at the Continental level. But I have my freedom there in almost all races and I will take the captain's role," said a confident Fumeaux.
