Leaving behind what the rider himself described as the worse year of his career, in which he failed to make it to the Movistar Tour de France formidable roster after he dedicated first part of last season preparing himself exclusively to this event, Sylwester Szmyd wants to focus on the new season.

Although the renowned Polish domestique has recently broken his wrist and still requires six more weeks for a full recovery before he can hit the road again, he continues his trainings indoors after he came back home from the Christmas Holiday break and looks forward to 2014 without any regrets concerning his transfer to Spain after many years spent in Italy.

“I wanted to make such change to continue on developing as a cyclist, to experience different mentality, slightly different work environment, to learn different language,” Polish cyclist explained Cycling Internacional

“I am very happy to race in Spain, even though Italy will always remain in my heart”

In the coming season Szmyd will return to his old and proven ways, as his main target after a one-year break will once again be the Giro d’Italia. As usually, he will play the crucial role in the support of the Movistar Team leaders in the mountains.

“I will return to the racing program that suits me most. Hopefully I will ride Challegne de Mallorca, Paris-Nice, Volta a Catalunya and the Tour the Romandie as a build-up.”
