Andrew Talansky was not afraid to show his anger yesterday after he was involved in a crash with Orica-Greenedge rider Simon Gerrans in the final 300m of the seventh stage of the Tour de France. Gerrans stayed upright but Talansky fell and crashed hard on his left shoulder.
He got up and finished the stage but watched the replay of the crash on a big screen just after the finishline. He vented his angry against Gerrans as he rode to the Garmin-Sharp team bus with team chiropractor Matt Rabin.
"He took me, he can’t do that. Do you think that's acceptable? I was pulling out the way and he took me down," Talansky shouted to Rabin several times as they weaved around other riders in the chaos of the finish area.
Gerrans is adamant he did not start the crash but has offered to apologise to Talansky anyway, a gesture that was greatly appreciated by Garmin-Sharp manager Jonathan Vaughters.
Talansky was treated on the team bus and Garmin decided to prevent him from talking to the media after he emerged from the team bus to warm down on the rollers, looking visibly furious and Garmin DS Andreas Klier has apparently suggested Talansky and Gerrans speak at the beginning of today’s stage.
As the crash occurred inside the final 3km, Talansky lost no time and moved up to seventh overall as a result of Fabian Cancellara dropping out of the top 10, where he remains 2:05 down on Maillot Jaune Nibali.
