Jasper Stuyven let the world of cycling know about his talent with his impressive performance in the recently concluded edition of the Vuelta a Espana, where he claimed top ten results in seven stages. Despite being in a brilliant disposition, the 22-year old Belgian hasn’t made a final cut to the national team for the World Championship road race as the course doesn’t suit his characteristics, but will star as a part of the Trek Factory Racing roster for TTT event held on Sunday.
“After all, I am going to Ponferrada; Worlds TTT with @TrekFactory,” Stuyven wrote on his Twitter account.
The final Belgian selection for World Championship road race raised some controversies and has been recently criticized, mainly for not including enough of Omega Pharma – Quick Step classics specialists instead of not exactly in-form Ben Hermans (BMC Racing) and Johan Vansummeren (Garmin-Sharp).
When it comes to Stuyven’s case, however, the 22-year old rider fully agreed with national coach’s decision after the latter had explained him that the course wasn’t his cup of tea and he didn’t want the rider of his class to ride in supporting capacity.
It turned out that the in-form Belgian will appear in the World Championships after all, as Stuyven has been chosen to become a part of Trek Factory Racing six-man roster for team time trial, held on September 21 in Ponferrada.
American team’s biggest powerhouses Fabian Cancellara and Kristof Vandewalle will lead the squad, joined by Stuyven, Jesse Sergent, Markel Irizar and Jaroslav Popovich.
