Today it was announced that Bram Tankink has extended his contract with the Belkin team. The Dutchman celebrated it by finishing sixth in the Druivenkoers Overijse.
On the day that his contract extension was announced, Bram Tankink crossed the line in sixth place in the Druivenkoers-Overijse in Belgium.
The Belkin Pro Cycling TEAM rider was part of a group that finished ten seconds ahead of first peloton in Overijse after a 195-kilometre-long battle for the win. Jonas Van Genechten of team Lotto-Belisol won.
“On the final climb. I was able to bridge to the group,” said Tankink. “This effort cost me in the sprint, especially since I had tried to get away a lap earlier, which unfortunately failed. I knew I had to try something because heading to the line with this group, including some fast men, would have made no sense. All in all, it was a beautiful day. I ended up sixth, my contract renewal is announced and my daughter is celebrating her first birthday!”
Sports Director Michael Elijzen specifically praised Dennis van Winden afterwards. The Dutchman played an important role on the Belgian roads.
“Early on in the race, a group of 27 riders took off,” said Elijzen. “Luckily, Dennis was up there. He saved the race for us with that. Many teams had no one in the break and so they had to control all day long. In the last eight 12-km laps, the group was caught then Bram, Dennis, Jetse Bol and Maarten Wynants tried to get away a few times.”
