Taylor Phinney, a highly talented time trialist and cobbled classicman, says making the BMC Tour de France team will be his goal next season, as he tells VeloNews.
Aside from that, there are changes made for the former U23 time trial world champion. He's going to move his training base to Nice, France, as well as hires Reed McCalvin as his personal soigneur. McCalvin worked with several Anglo cyclists, including Giro time trial winner Alex Dowsett.
As a silver medalist in 2012 World time trial championships, one would think Phinney can shine in the Grand Tours. The American did well in Giro, winning the prologue and the pink jersey in 2012. However, he has not attended the Tour yet. Next year the Tour will have a long flat time trial in stage 20, which surely fits for the American.
Two time U23 Paris-Roubaix winner, Phinney is regarded by many as a future contender for the elite level Paris-Roubaix. The American has this race as his another target for next season as well. Aside from that, Phinney can try to foil the sprinters in flat stages using his TT ability as well, like the one he won in Tour de Pologne this year.
