The route of the 98th Giro d’Italia, scheduled from May 9th to 31st, 2015, was unveiled Monday October 6th, in Milan. The new Corsa Rosa will get started in Liguria, with a team time trial from San Lorenzo al Mare to Sanremo, while the finish – after 3.481,8 km – will make its return to its traditional site, Milan, after two years.

The route features seven uphill finish, the last one being on Sestriere on the eve of Milan’s finale, while the riders will face only one individual time trial, at stage 14, on the 59,2 km distance from Treviso to Valdobbiadene.

Team Colombia’s General Manager Claudio Corti attended Giro d’Italia’s presentation along with Fabio Duarte – who achieved two runner-up spots in 2014 Giro d’Italia -, Sports Director Valerio Tebaldi and Assistant Sports Director Marco Corti.

“It will be a beautiful and entertaining Giro, with several tough stages in the first week already,” Corti said, “compared to the previous edition there will not be an uphill time trial, but those who will surrender some time in Valdobbiadene will have plenty of chances to fight their way back on the mountains.”

“It will be another Giro for climbers, and I believe it is suited to the characteristics of Colombian athletes. Quintana announced he is not going to defend his title, but today I had the chance to speak with Rigoberto Uran, and I think he was pretty satisfied with the route. A Colombian has always stepped on the Giro podium in the last few years, and I think the 98th Giro will be no exception, while hoping our team will deserve a chance to shine as well,” Corti stated.

Team Colombia’s General Manager clearly wishes to contribute to Colombia’s success with his Escarabajos:

“I must admit I am glad to start from Liguria, as this area has always been quite a lucky place for me. My Saeco Team won the last Giro that got off from Liguria with Damiano Cunego, back in 2004. Hopefully, 2015 will be a fortunate Giro as well.”

Like in the two previous years, Pro Continental Team Colombia will need to secure one of the four available Wild Cards in order to take the start from San Lorenzo al Mare next May 9th:

“I believe the Team made its part pretty well in 2014 Giro, getting in the action every day and honoring the invitation from RCS Sport. We are aware that many valuable teams will be running for this opportunity, but in these years we proved what we are capable to bring to this race, and hopefully in 2015 we will be able to finally clinch the elusive stage win we grazed so many times,” Corti concluded.
