Three pairs go into Wednesday's finale of the Six Days of Rotterdam in the Ahoy-Halle with the final victory within reach. Belgians Jasper de Buyst and Kenny De Ketele going have a small lead over defending champions Niki Terpstra and Iljo Keisse. The difference is only 12 points, 243-231.
Danes Michael Mørkøv and Rasmussen are still not out of the battle and still have a chance to add their names to the list of winners. They are one lap behind the two leading pairs but with a points tally of 239, their options are open.
Keisse and Terpstra started the penultimate day in a determined mood. The reigning champions tried to gain a lap on de Buyst and De Ketele in the first madison but the Etixx-QuickStepp pair missed a few metres in the end. The efoort was good enough for the win but the pair had clearly hoped for more. Their plan had failed and they were too tired to even raise their arms in celeberation of the win.
Tuesday's long madison was the scene of a battle that had the riders go to the maximum of their capabilities. The five best pairs fought hard but none of them managed to gain a lap. After 50 minutes and 10 laps, de Buyst and De Ketel took a sprint win. Mørkøv and Rasmussen were a close second, centimetres ahead Keisse and Terpstra.
The Derny Cup will be decided in an exciting finale. As in the main competition, Keisse and Terpstra are still in contention. Their main rivals are brothers Michel and Raymond Kreder and Wesley Kreder-Jesper Asselman who are both just a little bit behind.
The Dutch sprinters made up for yesterday's disappointment. In the Sprint Cup, the Dutch sprinters rallied Tuesday. By winning the sprint and the keirin, they narrowed their deficit by one points. Going into the final day, the Greeks lead 69-66.
