“I was very pleased with that. When I can grow my TT, in the next few years, then I can go for a top 3 place in the GC.”

Dylan Teuns, who is looking forward to his first full pro year with BMC next season, has always been a strong talent, but his 2014 role as a stagiaire with the team showed just how good he was.

He took wins early on in 2014 in the Tour de Bretagne and Mont Blance before meeting his season’s first target, a stage win in the big U23 race the Tour de l’Avenir.

“I was going to the Tour for a stage win and I succeeded in my goal,” the 22 year old told Ciclismo Internacional in a recent interview.

But Teuns really came into the public eye when he finished fourth on the Tour of Britain stage finishing up the tough climb of the Tumble.

“I was in a really good shape after the Tour de l’Avenir and I wanted to keep that shape to the worlds. The finish on a climb like that was perfect for me.”

He was also up there for the win the next day, but was beaten into third by the man who would become World Champion less than a month later, Michal Kwiatkowski.

“I felt good at that moment, I thought he (Kwiatkowski) needed some recovery because he did a really hard attack on the climb and there I was sitting on his wheel, and then after that I closed the gap to Roche. We both did the part we needed to do, but he was super fast in the sprint.”

But Teuns dropped from fifth to tenth on GC after the race’s short time trial and he admits it is an area of the sport he needs to work on. But he was still proud of his overall result.

“I was very pleased with that. When I can grow my TT, in the next few years, then I can go for a top 3 place in the GC.”

He has already helped riders like Greg van Avermaet achieve success, finishing sixth in GP Wallonie as Greg took the win. He wants to get to ride the races he thinks he can win in the future and that is his big goal for 2015. If he does this he will be happy.

“If I can race the races where I will win in the future, and help the leaders of the team to fight for the win.“
