Theo Bos will be back in action in the sprint events on the track. The former world champion in the sprint is aiming for the Olympics in Rio. His road team Dimension Data has given him the green light.

"Basically, I am not going to do road races anymore," Bos told in Alkmaar.

A few years ago, Bos turned his attention to the road and rode for teams like Cervelo, Rabobank and Belkin before he signed a two-year contract with MTN-Qhubeka. After the arrival of Mark Cavendish, Bos sees less perspective in his road team.

"I wanted to do a grand tour one time - for example to go to the Tour to win a stage - but the door was finally closed. Then I can focus on the Tour of Langkawi or the Eneco Tour. But this is more of a challenge for me. It is all or nothing for me next season. Rio is the goal." 

Bos will probably make his return at the World Cup in Hong Kong next month.

"There's a strong sprint group, but I like the challenge. Today I put my hand up for the keirin and also have met certain eligibility requirements with coach René Wolff. The speed is there. In the short term, I hope to be a good addition for the team sprint, for example, as the third man."
