Edward Theuns continued his impressive breakthrough season by achieving his best result yet when he sprinted to second behind the unstoppable Alexander Kristoff in the Scheldeprijs.
"Today I was just beaten by a very strong Kristoff so that's not a shame," he told Het Nieuwsblad. "In the last kilometer I was perfectly delivered by Pieter Vanspeybrouck. I hesitated a bit because there were not many riders behind me after the crash. Maybe that's why my comeback just came a little too late."
If you finish second in a race for big sprinters, you can go all the way.
"I see myself more and more as a sprinter," said Theuns."I've trained it a lot and I notice a positive result."
For Paris-Roubaix Theuns has no expectations. "We are going to try to be there as long as possible but we're not going to have the greatest ambitions. It is a race at another level."
Theuns wants to win Scheldeprijs one day.
"If I can be second today, I know I have a good opportunity to stand on the highest step of the podium."
