Edward Theuns went into the final time trial of the Etoile de Besseges with the leader's jersey on his shoulders. In the end, he had to settle for fifth in the overall standings.
"Bob Jungels is very strong against the clock, so his victory is not a surprise," he told Directvelo. "But when you start a time trial with the leader's jersey on your shoulders, you hope to keep it. I had a better time than last year. I watched my sensor because I didn't want to ride too fast on the flat. I didn't want to explode on the climb. I was a little heavy for the final climb. It was very steep.
"As I said, Jungels is a specialist in this discipline. He obtained many victories in the junior and U23 ranks. I'm happy to finish fifth overall. I also won the points classification. It is a good Etoile de Besssèges and a good start. I finished in the top 10 in each stage. It feels good for the morale. I'm ready for the Flemish classics."
