For the third year in a row, Peter Velits earned himself the right to wear the jersey of Slovakian time trial champion when he won today's battle for the honour in Slavkov. Being the only WorldTour rider on the start line, he relegated the Dukla Trencin Trek duo of Maros Kovac and Patrik Tybor to the minor spots on the podium.
As expected Peter Velits was in a class of his own in today's Slovakian time trial championships. The BMC rider who will line up at the Tour de France in less than two weeks, convincingly beat his rivals to earn himself a third consecutive title.
As always, the race was held in conjunction with the Czech championships on a course in Slavkov in the neighbouring countru. Velits's closest rivals were four riders from the Dukla Trencin Trek team but Maros Kovac who took second, was more than 2 minutes off the mark, with Patrik Tybor completing the podium.
Velits gets a chance to make the double in Sunday's road race championships where he faces a lot stronger rival, defending champion Peter Sagan.
Result:
1. Peter Velits 56.09
2. Maros Kovac +2.12
3. Patrik Tybor +4.30
4. Matej Jurco +4.51
5. Martin Mahdar +5.38
