Tour Down Under, Volta ao Algarve and Tirreno-Adriatico are the three stage race that will open the 2016 season for Julian Arredondo (1988, Trek Factory Racing) will open next season. The Colombian hopes to return to his best level after a disappointing year.
Arredondo will debut in the Australian summer at the Tour Down Under (January 19-24) - Jack Bobridge, Ryder Hesjedal, Giacomo Nizzolo, Kiel Reijnen, Peter Stetina and Boy Van Poppel will be his teammates - and will also ride in Algarve (February 17-21) for the first time. His first big test will be Tirreno (March 9-15), a race that was the scene of his breakthrough in 2014. Then he will evaluate his condition with the coaches of the team and decide if he will ride the Giro d'Italia.
The Colombian who is training with his team in Alfaz del Pi until December 18, had a fantastic first year at the highest level in 2014 when he won a stage (Rifugio Panarotta) and the mountains jersey in the Giro. He won two stages of the Tour de San Luis, was fifth behind Contador, Quintana, Kreuziger and Péraud in Tirreno, 11th in the Fleche Wallonne and 25th in Liege-Bastogne-Liege during his debut in the Ardennes.
2015, however, started badly. He was ninth in Oman and eighth in the Criterium International, but did not reach the same level despite showing flashes of his talent in the Tour de Suisse. He struggled to finish his first Tour de France, hampered by physical problems.
