Tinkoff-Saxo have named most of their Vuelta a Espana roster that will be led by Alberto Contador. However, the team keeps a spot open for Roman Kreuziger who hopes to have his suspension overturned later this week.
Tinkoff-Saxo have announced the 8 riders that will make up most of their roster for the Vuelta a Espana but will postpone the decision regarding the final rider until tomorrow. The team is still hopeful that Roman Kreuziger will have his suspension overturned by CAS.
Kreuziger was kept on inactive status by his team when it emerged that the UCI was about to open a case against him for irregular blood values. As the team did not receive any news from the UCI, however, they decided to include him on the roster for the Tour de Pologne.
UCI intervened by handling the Czech a provisional suspension which has been appealed to CAS by the rider. The Czech still hopes to be able to ride the Vuelta where he is likely to be the team's GC leader.
Alberto Contador headlines the roster but has made it clear that he will be targeting a stage win in the final week and not the GC. The Spaniard is still recovering from the injury he sustained in the Tour de France and has just returned to training a few days ago.
The rest of the team is made up of a mix of climbers and riders for the flat stages. Chris Anker Sørensen, Oliver Zaugg, Sergio Paulinho and Ivan Rovny are expected to shine on the hillier days while Matteo Tosatto and Daniele Bennati will use their wast experience in the flat stages. Danish champion Michael Valgren who will be making his grand tour debut, complete the roster.
