Matti Breschel showed signs of great condition when he finished fourth in today's very tough stage of the Eneco Tour. His Tinkoff-Saxo team sees his good performance as an indication that he will be ready for his big goal at the World Championships.

Matti Breschel has had a hard time living up to his past performance in the classics but today he showed great condition when he finished fourth in stage 5 of the Eneco Tour which was like a mini Tour of Flanders. The Dane was one of the strongest in the uphill sprint on the Muur which shows that he is getting ready for his big goal, the Worlds in Ponferrada.

“I actually consider this a great result," sports director Fabrizio Guidi said. "Matti did a really good job tactically in the finale and had the legs to power up the Muur to finish fourth ahead of some of the world’s best in this kind of terrain. He’s progressing and I know he’s targeting the Worlds and it seems like he’s on the right track.

"Tomorrow’s stage is in Liege-Bastogne-Liege terrain and we’ll do our best to help and support Matti for another top result."
