Tinkoff-Saxo’s squad in Tour de Pologne played its cards in several breakaway attempts in an effort to repeat the win on stage 4. Despite determined attacks from Poljanski and Kiserlovski, the teams of the GC favorites had their eyes fixed on the tough stage 6, which was won by Sergio Henao. Chris Anker Sørensen sits 13th in the GC.
After the stage, Bruno Cenghialta, team sports director, explains that Tinkoff-Saxo played an active role out front.
“Today's stage was very difficult. It was demanding, from the first kilometer with two breakaways. Once the first one was caught, a second one was formed and the pace was very high. We had Kiserlovski in the first breakaway and Poljanski in the second one. He raced well and he was strong but Sky, Astana, Lotto or Katusha worked very hard. The breakaway managed to build a lead of 4 minutes but they were caught. All our riders performed well today but the other teams controlled and had a tight grip on the race, setting a very fast pace. Unfortunately, Edward Beltran wasn't able to get any mountain points either and Maciej Paterski got the polka dot jersey”, comments Bruno Cenghialta.
Going into the final decisive time trial, Sergio Henao holds the race lead. According to Cenghialta, Tinkoff-Saxo eyes an opportunity with three-time Polish TT champion and stage winner Maciej Bodnar.
“Our sight is now set on Saturday's individual time trial, where we will try to have Maciej Bodnar score a good result. His victory two days ago took its toll. He was for nearly 220km in the breakaway and felt very tired today. However, he is completely focused on the time trial and we feel positive about it”.
