Stage 3 of Tour of Britain came down to another bunch sprint decision with Elia Viviani taking the win. Tinkoff-Saxo’s Michael Mørkøv missed out on the top positions finishing 16th on the stage, while team sports director Nicki Sørensen saw definite signs of improvements with the squad delivering good support.

After the conclusion of stage 3 in Tour of Britain, Nicki Sørensen tells that the team put in a solid performance.

“I think that the boys did well today. Although Mørkøv missed out on a top result in the final sprint, the team backed him up nicely and I definitely saw some improvement in the way that they rode today. With top sprinters like Viviani, Greipel and Cavendish here, it’s definitely not easy to compete for the first spots on the stage. Mørkøv was there in the end, but it didn’t pan out the way we could have hoped”, says Nicki Sørensen about the action on the 216km long stage from Cockermouth to Floors Castle won by Elia Viviani.

Tinkoff-Saxo had four guys finishing in the decimated main bunch of only 50 riders. The peloton kept a high pace with the sprinters’ teams controlling the breakaway.

“We had an early breakaway of six riders, where one of them was only trailing by about 1’30” in the GC. This meant that the break really never stood a chance, as the sprinters had their eyes set on this stage and the top GC teams didn’t want to let them go”, tells Nicki Sørensen before elaborating on tomorrow’s action from Edinburgh to Blyth.

“Tomorrow will most likely be a day for the sprinters, where they go toe-to-toe in a final bunch sprint for the win. We know that Mørkøv is fast and so is Trusov. They are naturally up against some big favorites, but we will now sit down and see how we can approach the stage in the best way possible. On the day after, we face the queen stage with the mountain top finish. As I see it, Chris Anker is going well and I reckon that the same counts for Kiserlovski”, finishes Nicki Sørensen.
