No less than 236 kilometers were on the menu for the peloton during today’s fourth stage of Tour of Poland where a bunch sprint was highly expected in Katowice.
However, several attempts were made to interrupt the plans of the sprinter teams and when it all came together with 2.5 kilometers to go, Thor Hushovd (BMC) launched a stinging attack on a small ramp hammering his way towards the finish line.
But Thor Hushovd was caught with 1 kilometer to go, and in the hectic sprint, Jonas Vengenecten (Lotto-Belisol) took a surprising stage win.
Tinkoff-Saxo’s Rafal Majka once again had a fairly quiet day behind the line of loyal teammates but tomorrow it goes on in the Polish mountains and the first uphill finish of the race.
“It was an almost exact replica of the previous stages on our part making sure Rafal was safe but unfortunately, he was stung by a bee above his eye, which is one of the things your teammates can not prevent from happening. He’s fine now and ready for tomorrow’s stage. I don’t expect the riders to finish one by one on tomorrow’s uphill finish. It’s really not that steep but we have to stay alert and stay in the front to be ready to attack or at least respond,” says DS Tristan Hoffman to the Tinkoff-Saxo webpage.
