Tinkoff-Saxo took on the responsibility to control the flat morning stage of the Tour of Denmark for race leader Manuele Boaro. The team hopes that their Italian specialist can defend his lead in the evening time trial.

Today’s 100 kilometer long fourth stage was the first of two stages of Tour of Denmark this Saturday as later tonight the peloton is challenged with a time trial over 15 kilometers.

The morning stage started in Nyborg to finish in Odense and a trio consisting of Christopher Williams (Team Novo Nordisk), Daniel Foder (TreFor-Blue Water) and Mikkel Mortensen (Riwal Platform) animated the race. As the leading team of the race, Tinkoff-Saxo took charge of the pace in the peloton, the situation was under control and the break didn’t turn out to become the fairytale the escapees wanted it to.

Entering the local circuit in Odense, the sprinter teams also got involved in the chase and as expected, the morning stage was concluded with a bunch sprint where Astana’s Andrea Guardini took his second stage win of the race.

Tinkoff-Saxo’s Manuele Boaro finished in the bunch and is now ready to defend his leader’s jersey on the 15 kilometer long time trial tonight. Besides the individual classification, Tinkoff-Saxo lead the team classification as well.

“It was a rainy day in Denmark with a lot of crashes as a direct consequence. However, we were at the front of the bunch so we weren’t affected by this. The boys did a good job pulling the pack and we’re now focusing on tonight’s time trial. We hope Manuele will defend his overall lead and that Chris Juul will climb the GC where he is currently 10th.”
