Even though the UCI rules say that no official deals can be made before 1st of August, according to Italian media it is almost certain that Peter Sagan and Ivan Basso will join the Tinkoff-Saxo team for the 2015 season.
Without any doubts Sagan was the most discussed name among the riders whose contracts expire by the end of the current season, being linked to several different squads including Tinkoff-Saxo, Astana or Fernando Alonso’s project. According to TuttobiciWeb, the Slovakian superstar is on the verge of closing the deal with the Danish squad after their budget was significantly boosted with an arrival of Russian oligarch and cycling enthusiast Oleg Tinkov.
What’s more, reportedly Tinkoff-Saxo is also interested in signing another Cannondale leader, experienced Ivan Basso, as a luxury domestique for Alberto Contador. A surprisingly solid performance of the 36-year old Italian in the first week of the Giro d’Italia very likely encouraged Danish team’s management make an offer and since Tinkov himself closely follows the peloton in Italy, an agreement seems to be made only with several details yet to be discussed.
