Tinkoff-Saxo have dominated the mountain stage but that doesn't mean that they don't try to play a role on the flat days too. Today the team chased hard behind Ramunas Navardauskas in an attempt to set up Daniele Bennati for the sprint and came away with 5th place for their efforts.

After Alberto Contador left the race, Tinkoff-Saxo have had a fabulous Tour de France but most of their success has come in the mountain stages. However, the team is also intent on chasing a win in the final flat stages and hope that Daniele Bennati will be able to surprise the faster sprinters.

Today the team took responsibility in the chase behind eventual winner Ramunas Navardauskas but they failed in their attempt to bring the Lithuanian back. In the end, Bennati finished fourth in the sprint for second to take another top 5 result for the team.

“It was a long, hard and wet stage for the riders and of course safety is important on a stage like this," sports director Philippe Mauduit said. "In the finale, Nico [Roche], Tosso [Tosatto], and both Michaels [Mørkøv and Rogers] were setting up Daniele for the sprint but we had to settle for fifth position today. Navarduskus was really going fast so hats off for his performance."
