"Nobody wanted to take a risk on the descent in the peloton, but this race has six more stages with big mountains. It's not over, it hasn't even begun."
Those were the words of Paolo Tiralongo after stage one at the Volta a Catalunya in Spain. Tiralongo finished sixth overall, 2:40 behind the breakaway trio with stage winner with Maciej Paterski of Poland.
The peloton did not chase the trio until they reached a maximum gap of nearly 15 minutes, and only began to bring down the time difference after a 15km descent into Calella.
