Today is key to understanding the future of the WorldTour and professional continental teams.
Throughout Monday, the auditors at Ernst & Young will send teams aspiring to join the elite ranks in 2016 a full report regarding the points that have been adequately covered but also with the deficiencies that have been identified. If some of these deficiencies are considered to be alarming, the team will miss out of registration, as the International Cycling Union (UCI) usually follows the recommendation of the auditors.
The UCI is also expected to puclish a list of teams that have received WorldTour and pro continental licenses and which teams will have their registration process suspended. The UCI has alreasy announced a preliminary list with 17 WorldTour and 20 Professional Continental teams on October 7. The teams had until November 1 to send the complete documentation.
From now on the final phase begins. Those who are on the list can already start to plan for 2016. But those who have their process suspended, must travel to Switzerland to defend the economic, legal, ethical and administrative feasibility of their projects.
The Licensing Commission will study the documentation from November 2 to 11. From November 16 to 20, the meetings with the auditors, the UCI, the teams and the three members of the Licensing Commission will be held. And on November 23, the Commission will make its decision which can only be changed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
