For IAM Cycling and its first participation in the Tour of Romandie, the week ended on a positive note even though the team failed to secure a slot for this season’s Tour de France.
Matthias Brändle, who had already won the green jersey competition in 2011, again came away with the overall lead in the points classification though he is still only 23 years old. The Austrian secured the prize by being present in all major breakaways throughout the week and consequently came away with the award for the most aggressive rider for the race.
As for Marcel Wyss, his return to the forefront of his profession was confirmed by his 10th place performance. The rider from Bern did not try to hide his satisfaction before heading home from the week of racing. "I am very happy with my week of racing and happy for IAM Cycling. I proved that I have found my legs after my serious illness. In 2009 I was 7th in the Tour of Romandie. The only disappointment was that they had to reduce the difficulty of Saturday’s mountain stage. I had focused on racing twice up the col de la Croix. But things like that are also part of the sport and must be endured. And of course, a time trial like today’s [Sunday’s] is not exactly my specialty either."
